Default new here...need some help

im 100% new to quads and 2 strokes but not new to turning wrenches on vehicles.

Anyways I just picked up a 2000 Xplorer 400 and I dumped the quad in water drained everything that had a drain plug and it started up but didnt move so i drained the PVT now everything is well, but I have no idea what i drained the pull start housing or the crankcase housing? is there supposed to be oil at the bottom of the crankcase or does the "2 stroke" lubricate the bottom end?

is there anything else i should check/change before i ride the quad hard again?

thanks

There is a drain plug below the recoil pull start housing, also drain the air box, front diff, there chain drive on the back right? There also is oil for the counter balancer it only takes a few onces. Might want to change the oil in the oil injection tank if it go contaminated.

You just drained the starter housing. No crankcase oil in the 400. Grease everything and CHECK THE OIL IN COUNTERBALANCER!!!! Most critical on the 400. Also use a good synthetic two stroke oil and you will save your wallet in the long run. Good luck and welcome!!!

Your owners manual has all this info in it...if you don't have one go to the polaris site, they have them in PDF.

Polaris ATV, RANGER, Snowmobiles, Victory Motorcycles Website

Bottom of page (riders guide) and (manuals and parts). You'll have to sign in, quick and painless. Download the manual, it should answer all your questions.

Yes, the slotted plug is your counter balance fill...the drain is under the skid plate, along with the crankcase, recoil and starter drain.

The plug you have in the red square is another way to check the counter balance oil. The oil level should be even with that plug just like the manual trans on older cars and trucks.

This oil is VERY VERY important on the 400 engine. If the counter balancer goes it will destroy the entire engine. It WILL go out if it is run without oil or it gets full of water.

It will also last forever as long as it is full of good clean oil. Check it often.
