Default LT80 Carb removal

Hi - ok, so I'm getting a chance to look at my kids' LT80 this weekend. The carb needs cleaned badly - it's having the same issue as many have noted (i.e. doesn't run properly w/o the choke on, revs high with the choke on).

So, having done a bunch of reading first, I go to look at the carb to take it off - I'm anticipating an 8mm bolt - low and behold, I have 4 phillips-head screws holding mine on. Now, the 2 on the top are easy to get at, but, I'm not even sure how to get at the ones on the bottom - that's a tight space!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.
What you are trying to take off is the reed cage.
The carb indeed has 2- 8mm/phillips head bolts. Look on each side of the carb in front of the black thing.

Jeez.... I was almost dreading logging in this morning. Thanks for not making the newbie look like a **** (anymore than I did already!!)

I sent the message after looking at things kinda quickly - I got to look at it a little more closely (after cleaning everything up a bit) and, although I didn't know it was the reed cage, I knew that wasn't what I was trying to take off - I also saw the bolts....

I'll try to spend a little more time before sending in brainless questions!!

Cheers!

If its a 2 stroke it may use a Mikuni Round slide Carburetor this will give you a idea on how to clean them. Disassembly and Cleaning of a Mikuni Round slide Carburetor

Thanks for that link - that's great information to have - looks pretty much the same as the carb on my LT80 - still not certain what year it is.

Wasn't able to get to it this weekend, so hopefully I have some time this week. On the plus side, I got my riding tractor all fixed up and running properly again...

Default Carb Kit?

Another question while we're talking about carbs - I'm looking online for a carb kit - any particular brand that's better than any other? The challenge seems to be finding someone that ships to (or preferably from) Canada.

Here's a link below for a Keyster carb kit - is this a good kit or are there others considered better?

SUZUKI LT80 KEYSTER CARB KIT 1987 - 2001 on eBay.ca (item 220651859991 end time 09-Sep-10 10:00:11 EDT)

Thanks!

I bought a Moose carb kit for my LT80 on the recommendation of my Suzuki Dealer. The parts were good quality and I have no complaints

I'd just get the cheapest one off ebay.. some come with floats and the valve thing the float actuates if you look good at the pix.. all come with gaskets, needle and jets... so I'd find either the most inclusive or cheapest after shipping depending on my needs... do you really NEED a float and all the parts or what parts DO you need? this one has shipping included via 1st class at $20 shipped. canada can't be much more and usps ships cheap to canada so imo it's a good place to ask..

I can tell from the parts in the pic it's for a stock LT80 carb..
