the motor is the same 455cc and 34mm carbed motor used in the Sportsman 450 since 2006. its rated at 30hp according to this http://quads.ca/bb/viewtopic.php?p=5...e0528bcd3e027e

The 455 motor is the same Fuji built motor used in the Sportsman 500 but with either a smaller 87.9mm bore vs the 499s 92mm bore,so any 500 mods should work on it. Here are some.Aaen Performance - Polaris ATV 500

Also the the only other differance is the 455 has a 9:81 compression ratio vs the 500's 10:2. and the 500 uses a 40mm carb.

Is yours the new full size 400 H.O or the smaller one with the 300 Hawkeye Frame?

its the smaller version now that I checked the website and seen the 2011 was the bigger frame wish i wouldve awaited a month or two now but the bigger frame equals more weight so I guess it would equal out so far only have an hour and half on the bike so still learning it havent even broke it open yet to see top speed dealer said be cool with it for the first 3 hours so starting to to get impatient lol I kinda like the small frame although much easier to manhandle in the woods when riding trails imo will keep you posted though

the only thing bad avout the smallr size is that you can roll it easier if you turn too fast. can't remember for sure, but around 50 mph was top speed on ours. nice bike just the same.

Its a great ride. Luv mine more than my 550XP except for the power steering on the xp.

I would of thought faster than 50mph, a SP500 almost hits 60mph and weighs 150lbs more and only has a 5 hp advantage over the 400.

Gearing diff on them? My 450 does 54-56 mph. I wld love to take one of the ones with the smaller frame for a ride. Wld be great for tight trails and woods riding.
