'05 660 Grizzly help
#1
I just picked up an '05 660 Grizzly. Body is in great shape, front and rear mount winched, full under armor and all. From what the guy told me, he was running it down the road at WOT running about 60mph and it fell on its face and lost all power. He shut it down and towed it home. After it cooled off it did start back up, but had a terrible ticking noise. What do you guys think happened and what all you think will need replaced? i do know it will turn over, so its not locked up. just havent tore into it yet, just curious what i might be looking to expect. My guess is it got too hot and a valve stuck. hence the ticking noise...any other suggestions? and if it needs a valve job...what brand? kibblewhite?

My guess is a failed valve spring. I would start by examining the the valvetrain. A simple compression test might help but I don't know a good baseline measurement to test against. Someone else who owns a 660 grizzly might be able to tell you what a "normal" compression reading should be.

well after more research, the plug is black, all valve covers show signs of oil, belt is in good shape (was told it could chunk and make all kinds of noise), has plenty of oil, all three intake valves seem to be working fine, and are both exhaust valves supposed to open and close together? still trying to find my culprit. havent done a compression test as my compression gauge hasnt came in yet.

well after several hours of tearing down the grizz and running it to the shop for my mechanic to properly diagnose it...well the bad news began. the noise it was making was high and low in the motor. it wasnt just a valve issue as we thought. the upper noise was the piston smacking the head, the lower noise was the fact that the bearings in the rod are shot. so needless to say i just ordered a new piston kit and crankshaft assembly. booo
