My buddy's tb is in the shop with what the dealer calls a motor that has "ingested dirt particles". The bike was bought new in December and has had been well cared for. He has washed and oiled the stock air filter every time he rides. They say the motor is shot and will cost him $300-500 to fix. Shouldn't this be a covered warranty item? He needs some help in knowing what to do. Anything in the warranty that says the motor isnt covered? Should he contact Polaris or maybe try another dealer (the motor is completely apart).

I'd have him call Polaris. There was a post in here just the other day regarding how good their warranty/customer service has been to owners.

If the engine has ingested dirt paricles and it is stock .airbox etc.. then that would be something that should be taken care of under warrenty in my opinion. If its had mods to the air box or the intake then thats a diffent story.. I agree with Mousin i would contact polaris directly and explain the sitution

 

The intake and airbox are bone-stock. Good news! The dealer called Polaris and explained the situation. They are covering parts and labor to completely repair the engine. They say they will need to bore it one size larger and put a bigger piston in. What will the displacement would he end up with?

Not sure what the displacement will be now but if he's got the cash, go ahead and have them drop a wiseco in and have it ported!

 

If they are doing the repairs under warranty then he can't have them drop in a wiseco or that would void the warranty. At least that is what I have been told as I had to get a complete engine rebuild.

 

True I suppose, just seems such a waste to have it tore down to that point already and not be able to do it - especially since it'll be out of warranty soon anyway. I'd still give my best shot at convincing the dealer to do it. Ya just never know!

 

I have 3 more months +/- to go before warranty runs out. As soon as it does I'm throwing a forge piston in mine, sure don't want the same thing to happen twice.

 

Does it run at all. I'm looking to buy one that dosen't run probably the same problem. How could I tell if this is the case? The man said it has a bad head or something to that effect. Not sure yet but will find out.

 

This guy's quad did end up being repaired by said dealer, and they did drop a wiseco in, claiming that's all they use. It turns out he was talking to a flunkie the first time, but when the regular guy got back, he took care of business. This is the same TB that now has an FTR clutch kit and HPD pipe and silencer. It ROCKS! The dealer said that a plug was missing from the bottom of the motor, so he was sucking in debris everytime he rode. We just happened to be in mud that day and it wasnt pretty. So i guess it was a freak thing.
