Default fluid help

Just bought a 2000 sportsman 500 got it home and was checking fluids...transmission was bone dry so i threw some 85wt gear oil in there to get it lubed, what should i b putn in the transmission? Im gonna do a full refresh this weekend on all fluids.never had a 4x4 either what fluid should i use for differential's and where is the fill hole located? I assume it's treated differently than the transmission. Ive got the engine oil and grease points figured out,am i missing anything? dont mean to seem like a newb but i got no manual with it and my other wheeler is a 250ex,just oil and gear cased on it. Thanx

don't run that bike w/ gear oil in the transmission. way too thick of oil. you really should get an owners manaul to see what the bike takes for fluids if you can. imo

I use Synthetic chain case oil in the tranny,(32oz) will do it. Motor oil is Synthetic 0w-40 (2qts) ,front diff is Gear oil,75 to 90 weight (3.25oz).
For the two front hubs I used the Polaris AWD Demand fluid ,let excess spill out at 3 or 4 Oclock position. Manual also says Type "F" ATF works but I never tried it.

Since I did the first service on my '03 500SP in Nov/02, I've always used 100% synthetic 75w/90 gear oil in the tranny and front diff. I've never had an issue. I use synthetic ATF in the hubs and 0W/40 syn. in the engine. These lubricants have worked for me for thousands of miles with no issues.

I bought a 03 SP 500 HO about a month ago. The guy I bought it from was the original owner and he had run the same fluids HighVelocity mentioned in his post since the first fluid change. I just did a complete fluid change on it and went back with the same thing he had used all these years.

Glad to know ATF works in the hubs, The chain case oil I uses is "Shell synthetic snowmobile chain case oil" It really does not state its weight on the botttle ,but since the tranny of my ATV shares the same internal parts (Chain,Cogs and shift cam) as a Polaris Wide track Indy 500 and 540 Yamaha VK chain case, which has a low,High and Reverse as well , I just thought it has to work in the ATV's tranny also.
