I have a 98 klf 300 and i noticed by accident that it wasn't charging. I unhooked the plug to the stator and started and it had AC voltage on two of the three legs. Then i checked each wire going to the stator to ground and all three were shorted to ground. I believe the stator to be defective does anyone have other ideas?

Kawadoggy, sounds like you have an bad stator, none of the stator wires should run to ground...
