TM48 vs Lectron 48 question
#1
For general duning which carb is better for over all performance, all I hear over and over on the lectron is its a drag/hill shooting carb, and teh TM is better over all ?
Thoughts??

All things equal the Lectron has been proven to make more power ove the TM. For the dunes the Lectron is the way to go. A couple of things I don't care for on the TM are the stiff throttle pull and inability to hold a tune like a Lectron will with changing conditions.

I have, and still do run both between four bikes. The TM even after Hightower works his magic is still much stiffer than the Lectrons. The Moose and Terry Cable throttles make long dune cruises much more enjoyable.
A TM without the Hightower adjustments really wears you out over a short time period. Both perform well but I'd give the higher marks to the Lectron. Easier to adjust and easier on the body.

I really like my TM48. I had it dialed to where a quick main change and setting the air screw and I was set from sea level to 5,500 feet. Held a tune great. Now I have the Thunder Alley power jet and changing mains has been replaced with a simple turn of a valve.
One thing I ran into with the TM48 is running out of fuel with the stock petcock on long race hills. I ended up drilling out the stock petcock, removing the internals and using a valve in the fuel line. I got 50% more fuel flow at the carb for $9. I lost reserve but do not really need it with a natural IMS tank as I can see the fuel.
I modified the TM spring much like Hightower does and I run a Dual Gasser throttle. The pull is stiffer, but last trip to Sand Mt we did a 82 mile desert loop and I did the whole thing with just the thumb.

Erbe,
My fuel flow was marginal with a TM45 and I did not realize it until I moved up to the 48 and my poor old pig fell on its face on the race hill.
I would expect that the same would be true with a lectron 48 for my build as well.
