Total Rookie Question
#1
Hello, I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question, but here goes.
I have a 2001 Sportsman 500 H/O. I do not have a model specific manual but instead have a universal Polaris book.
On the right side near the back is a bright yellow, stubby dipstick. Is this the Transmission Fluid Level check?? or is it possible that this is the rear gear case check??
The fluid level is touching the bottom of the dipstick but not int he operating range. Can I simply top it off through the dip stick hole???
Thank you.

I use synthetic snowmobile chain case oil. I heard of others using snythetic 5W-30 or 5w-40 motor oil.
On the 500 and 450 Sportsmans that "unit" does two jobs, its your tranny for High, low, neutral and reverse as well as your rear differential. Most ATVs have a separate rear diff and tranny that does not share the same fluids.
