Question 2000 ds650 questions

I recently bought a 2000 bombardier DS650 for 1200$ so i am sure its been really beat on and i want to do a full tune up on it. the air filters really dirty, oils black, rear shock squeaks, hard to start cold. And im sure theres more i should look at but i've been reading about how on the 2000's you have to bleed the air out of the oil lines? also what weight oil to use? i havent been able to find a manuel for it yet to get a better look at the parts and locations on this atv. All the atvs ive own have been 80's and older and half the hp. I would appreiciate the advice and tips guys thanks, Jeff

I would certainly clean the carb as well. Probably gunked up with crap. Any DS650 I've ever had or know has a hard time starting cold. I think it's just the way it is. PM me your e-mail and I will send you a manual.

I have had a 2000 model since 2002 - always easy to start cold. My machine now has a different carb on it but even with the stock carb it always started great cold. Full choke - a couple of wicks of the throttle and it fired right up. Make sure the battery has a full charge it takes a bit to turn the 650 over.

If it is really hard to start you probably need to adjust your valves. If the valves are out of wack it can be vary hard to start.

With the 2000 model you will almost always have to bleed the oil system after an oil change. Not really a big issue once you get used to doing it.

Hard cold start - symptom of tight valves. Recommend picking up a shop manual (ebay) if you plan to attempt this yourself

Oil Change - Not fun on the DS. Gets quite messy. You'll need to drain the sump at the bottom of the engine case as well as the separate oil tank under the hood. There is a mesh filter inside where the oil line attaches to the bottom of the oil tank that most people dont know about. Take it out and clean it while you are in there.

Sqeaky Rear Shock - Most likely just needs a little grease on the top shock mounting bolt.

I would also drain all the gas and pull the carb apart and give it a good cleaning.

Good luck!

What do you mean by rear end? Swing arm?
If you need the order of the bearings and seals and all of the sprockets and hubs we can get you up and running.
Have you looked at any of the OEM fiche? They all show the order of all of the items that make up the mighty DS.
