87 Warrior limited to no spark pattern??

87 Warrior limited to no spark pattern??
I have a 1987 warrior that I have replaced the stator in and I am only getting a spark for a split second when I push the start button and for a split second when I release the start button. No spark at all durring the cranking period inbetween.
