KFX/LT80 pipe mods
#1
Hi all, new here
I have a KFX80 for my kids to ride, long story short it started running bad for some time and then quit on me.
started pulling top end apart and found the base gasket had failed and the case was full of 2/stroke oil, anyway the bore was good so i chucked a set of rings at it and a light hone and a skim of the head.
found this site and read about all the problems that others have had with these quads, btw thanks for all the input.
pulled the carb apart for a good cleaning aswell.
someone on the site did mention that the spark arestor can get sooted up, so i cut the pipe up and moded it a little.
Quad back together now and going well thanks to this stie, thanks.
here are some pic of the pipe.

You can also remove the large bolt/plug on the bottom and run it with it open for a little better flow.
When I recently had my sons pipe off I threw it in a hot fire until it got good and hot and you could see smoke coming out both ends. This was all the soot inside burning off. Took a high pressure air line and blew it all out.

thanks mate, I can tell you at the time when i was cutting it up, i did'nt think it was gunna turn out like that. what a mess it was after all the spotwelds were removed and the main cyclinder was cut open to remove the spark arestor.

Yea really. After doing all that work, what's going to be so hard about it.
I'm curious of the results of it running. Do you think there was a advantage to removing the arrester stuff? Notice any difference?

Hard to tell, to me it sounds alot better and i just asked the kids and they said it does better doughnuts and they can hang the *** end out for longer around corners, but hey that could be just the fresh rings and a comp boost, who knows, just happy it's going again and that i can repack that pipe every once in a while.
