My 95 Kodiak seems to smoke a bit after it's first started but then doesn't after it's warmed up. It only has 1700 mile on it and is in good shape. The guy I bought it from used it to hunt in Colorado. He said he had to re-jet it there and re-jet it again when he got back to WV. Could the smoking be from the carb not set right of maybe something else. It seems that if it was burning oil it would smoke all the time but not sure. Thanks in advance for any insight.

I have a 93 Kodiac that does the same thing. I had it checkout but the dealer told me that it was not thing to worry about. To me that's not a good explaination but what ever. About 2 months ago now a friend of mine bought a 2001 Big Bear 400. When he starts it up it does the same thing as ours. I don't know if its a jetting issue or just the way that they are. If you do get the problem resolved let me know so I can get mine to stop as well. Also it would be fun to through it in the face of the dealer's expert mechanics. hehe

Good Luck.

Yea, I called the dealer and they said it's normal if it's an older bike. I've noticed it only does it if you have to choke it in cold weather and it's a white smoke. It goes away after a minute and only when first started for the 1st time of the day. It may not do it in warm weather also. It doesn't burn any oil so it must be normal. That bike's a work horse like my 2000, hauled several hundred pounds of wood today w/ no problem. I like the lighted speedo and the compartment on the back of the 95. I hope my 2000 runs this good in six years. Seeing as it's a Yamaha, it probably will...
