I never realized just how much difference 4wd made

We were out for a ride today and saw a friend of a friend on a Warrior. I've always had a 4x4 quad, as do all of my friends. Quads are pretty useless in the snow anyway, but I couldn't believe how absolutly useless a 2wd quad is in the snow. We get stuck lots on our 4x4s, but a 2wd simply can't go anywhere.
I guess they're lots more fun in the summer, but what do you guys do the rest of the year? Do you all have snowmobiles?

If you put a good set of tires on the back, like vampires or outlaws, my honda fourtrax 300 2wd utility with vampires went better then my frends honda fourtrax 300 4x4 with brand new stock tires all around. His only went alot better in reverse than mine.

Well, this Warrior had pretty good tires on it, though I can't remember what kind they were. We all have stock tires on our quads (well, mine don't come stock on my bike, but they are the stock tires for a Grizz) and believe me, his quad was so much worse than ours in the snow that no amount of tire could have help. How deep is the snow you're talking about?

when i had the quad last year with new vampires i got for it, i was riding with the 4x4 version of it, in about 8 to 12inches of snow. everywhere he went i could go better. just not in reverse.
but just imagine if he put vampires all the way around, it would be unstoppable. i cant imagine how good it would go.

Well here we have ALOT of snow. No quad could ever hope to get aroud except where snowmobiles have it packed pretty good. But, we were in a gravel pit trying to climb so hills that are pretty impossible to climb in the winter. He couldn't make it to the bottom of the hills because as soon as he got off the packed snow he was instantly stuck. Just getting out of the pit would have been impossible for him if one of us hadn't been there to tow him out, and that was up a very slight grade that was extremly well packed.
Part of his problem was that he had too much air in his tires, but I was still amazed to see just how bad a 2wd quad was in the snow.

We have a ton of snow up here and its pretty hard to ride in with the blaster... Can only ride on the snowmobile trails that are packed down good. I went riding the day after the big storm this last week, I was able to move but barley... Had it between 5th and 6th gear pinned going about 5mph.. lol! you should have seen the roost! like 10ft in the air 20 or so feet long... these blackwaters dig hard, it was neat... but REALLY hard on the machine and more of a work out then anything... Most usually just digs holes... and a guranteed stuck every ride... Once you go off the hard packed snow you're all done. Oh what fun in the mud.... if you can take a blaster through a big mud pit you can take ANYTHING! lol!

How's this for an idea? An ATV manufacturer come out with a quad that has selectable 4 wheel drive. Y'all try to keep this between us while I get a patent on it.
