I hit the start button on my 2004 kfx 400 and a hear a grinding noise. I took the starter clutch cover off and seen that its turning along with the starter. I took the rotor center cover cap off and its not turning. Now I have taken the hole cover off to check all gears and all the gears look good and are in place like it should be. I put it all back together again and sometimes the rotor turns but than it stops, but the starter and starter clutch are still turning. Can any one help me? Is the a one way bearing issue?

 

Sounds like your LIMITER gear P/N 39076S004 is slipping sometimes. That's why the rotor stops turning.

 

Im not sure what you are talking about when you say limiter gear. Can you tell me more? Are you talking about the one way bearing?
