They can go out at ANY time!! muddy or clean trail riding. Replaced them on a lot of different machines. Usual signs are no speed indicator or mileage accumulation. OPT

Quick and easy repair did mine last year. Was your only symptom the speedo not working?? AWD is attached with the speedometer cable so if the speedo doesn't work and AWD is out then it could be something other than the hall effect sensor.

Polaris has not used a cable operated speedo since 1998 I think. I like the older cable speedo like on our 97 500 Sportsman, it was smashed off and in a roll over yet the AWD still worked fine, unlike the wire operated speeds they use now.

My Hall Effect when out a few years back, for $80 I just though it was not worth having a speedo and trip meter, only the hour meter works and it is so fogged up I can barely read it.

Sorry didn't mean to misname the part. I know it is not an actual "cable" I meant the cluster/speedo and if I remember correctly for the Sportsamn 600, if it fails, it also effects the awd drive system. Sometimes that can help with the diagnosis as to whether the entire cluster/speedo is out or if it is a hall sensor issue. Maybe we are just stating the same thing. In my situation it was the hall effect sensor....
