Default Silent Chain Quandry

I just had a silent chain put in one of my trailboss machines. The mechanic charged me close to double what he quoted because he said he needed to raise his prices. So I will change my next two. Here is my question. I can buy them from the dealer for 50.00, I also saw where their wholesale price is 32.00. Most parts discount places are 38-42 dollars plus shipping. I just find it odd that I cannot really beat the dealer price on an item like this. Ebay about the same. Any good leads on these I need to buy 3 more of them. Had some people ride them last summer double and not small doubles either. Thanks for the info. And yes I hae tried bikebandit, cheapcycle and many others

Also is there anything to watch for when changing these. Thanks Tony

$32.03 your cost at Cycle Parts Warehouse (looked up for a 330 Trail Boss and a 250 Trail Boss) THIS is about the cheapest I've found online. You've probably looked there already. Usually not just the chain ,but check the slider(dog gear) for wear and shift forks, plus check forward and reverse gear for worn engagement dogs also. Sometimes you can get by with just the chain,BUT check close,IF you have a doubt about a gear,REPLACE IT! Not worth having to tear back into!! Shift forks are pretty obvious if worn. With shipping like you say close to dealer price. Some items are cheaper and worth online buying, some are close to dealer price. But if you have multiple items probably cheaper online as shipping costs will probably be the same as on a single item. OPT

Once you replace your chains and anything else that is worn there is one good way to make sure you don't have to do this again.

Fill the trans with Castrol Syntec 5w50 motor oil.
