Default oil seal

I have a 1984 ytm225. In the generator cover there is an oil seal installed with the seal spring facing to the outside not to the oil side of cover. Is this correct?

Doesn't sound right to me.... is it leaking? If not, leave it alone. Keep a close eye on it,... but leave it alone unless you're in major overhaul mode already.

Hi, thats normal and nothing to worry about. Just finished rebuilding my 89 yfm 200 and it turns out that the seal is actually double sided. I'm not really sure why they use a seal like that. I replaced it with a standard one sided seal and it hasn't leaked. But as I said certainly nothing to worry about.
