Default scrambler 500 w/hpd jet kit.

well th jet kit never sold so i decided to install it based on everyone saying its a great upgrade. will i did everything like the instuctions said and i think it running rich. it fires up and idles but its choppy. the plug is new.
the kit came with a 165 main,is that to rich?i ride mostly sea level to 3800ft.
did i miss a step ?

i drilled out the 2 holes
i turned out the fuel screw 3 turns
installed the new jet tube and bottomed it out like the stocker with the notch in the same place.
and i cleaned it for good measure.

Carb tuning takes a little time! Try going back down to a 160 main(155 should be stock) and fuel air screw DOWN 1/2 turn to 2 1/2 turns, then test ride and "plug chop", that is test the color of the plug, should be medium tan color. If still running a little rich at idle, you can further go down on fuel /air screw mixture(which mainly affects idle) and can fine tune it a little more by dropping carb needle if still a little boggy. Just a process of trial and error! ALWAYS best to have a few different jets on hand as "kits' don't always hit it "dead on" depending on altitude, etc. OPT

What pipe are you running? If it is disc type you can add discs to open it up some to lean out or take some out to richen it a little.
