ALERT!! MN ATV'ers. New anti ATV bill in house committee. The greenies want our trails!!
#1
There is a bill in committee that basically will restrict the use of ATV's to ATV parks. Not sure on the particulars but I know its not good for ATV'ers. Call your state reps if you care at all about riding your atv on public lands. The greenies are trying to take away our trails. I spoke to House Rep len Biernat-sp and he said that he was not in support of the bill, he said that it sounded unfair for ATV'ers. Kind of cool when I called he answered his own phone. His number is 651-296-4219. Call him or your rep and let them know that you are against the bill. Sorry I dont know the bills name.

The ST. Paul Pioneer press release gives no number but...
1. The legislation is CHAMPIONED by Sen. John Hottinger, DFL- Mankato and Rep. John Tuma, R- Northfield. Both districts are over 200 miles from where the battle ground, northern Minnesota .
2. The conflict is between US and those who are upset with the NOISE of the vehicles and Damage, ruts..etc WE Cause...!! THINK LONG AND HARD about changing your stock pipe...you just give AMMO to those who don't want us around..period!!
3.The bill would FUNNEL money away from an existing off-highway plan account to MORE aggressive law ENFORCEMENT. Minnesota has about 600 miles of designated trails ..no new funding but plenty to make sure we don't ride when and where WE want to.
4. We must display license plates that are the same size as those required on cars...I'm not sure why..but I'd bet it would COST more both to us and the State to enact.
5. THE BIG ONE.. the bill would require state regulators to conduct enviromental reviews of all proposed trails and scramble ares..this would COST the state time and money..making it almost impossible to get any kind of new Trails opened...old railroad beds barely qualify.
This bill is supported by the Minn. Audubon and Minnesotans for Responsible Recreation out of Duluth Minn. Both groups Hate off-road and believe state lands are there ONLY for their TYPES of recreation.
They don't want any activity like ours so they put Money and Time in districts and politicans who would further their cause. We should note BOTH parties are involved and we could lose this big time.It only takes a few seconds to type a note to Your rep. and let them KNOW how you would like them to cast their vote.
If you live else where and don't think it can happen because of our new president...take a look around.. 'cause it is happenning!!
THANKS for reading....ps the bill would create a toll free hot-number to call to report violators!!

I thought this was supposed to be a free country. Since when is riding on a trail violating someone's rights... last time i checked it wasn't. If they shut it down for riders they should shut it down for everyone. Then what will the tree huggers say..? Then they would be mad when they can't use it and try to pass another bill saying only tree huggers can use the land. In some way they are doing this to benefit themselves. ...Sorry, I can't stand people like that..

I just thought I'd keep this thread up for another day..In this weeks "outdoor news " the article seems to show there is wide based support for this bill.I believe that is just an attempt to soften us up for the kill!! So for the sake of debate ..lets switch a few things around and see things from a different point of view..
It seems that the dnr needs a large license plate in order to catch us "bad" guys so...lets make all hikers wear large number plates ...so we can call a toll free number to report littering and trail damage. All dogs must remain on leash while on state land and wear a large number badge so we can report them and their owners when they crap all over walking trails...while on leash they couldn't scare as many deer...wild life etc. Barking dogs, who make as much noise as any 4 wheeler, could also be found and fined easier..If we are really worried about wildlife...no dogs would be allowed on state land. It would be much quieter and cleaner too.
In Minnesota there is a debate over perm. tree stands..lets license those too and only hunters with matching numbers could hunt in them. Of course they would have to pay a yearly fee for this right...and for damaging the trees and making a trail to get to the stand. This goes for fisherman too.. they cause rutts along all riverbanks...ever see the runoff along the Knife River after a major rain?? My point is we could go on and on...we must be aware this bill does not have the majority support it claims...nor does it address what needs to be done to enhance our sports saftey and awareness..it only goes to limit our access..using smoke sceens and mirrors. Some would say compromise... but currently in Minnesota the laws are much more in OUR favor...any compromise is losing!! I dread the day when we only get 3 months in the year to ride and only on old railroad beds..at 10 mph.
Think twice before changing that stock pipe...and do you really need to go 60 down narrow crowded trails??
