Default Wiring Mile Mark winch help

My husband has a 2004 polaris sportsman400 and needs help with wiring for the mile mark winch. It was already on there when he got it but doesn't seem to work.

welcome to the forum. i'm guessing since it was already installed on the bike that it is correctly wired, but maybe not. it should have a wire from the winch switch to a powered(HOT 12 VOLT) wire when the key is on. depending on the bike and year is will be most likely either orange or red/white. w/ a volt meter or tester, check to see if there is power coming from the bike to the switch. assuming that your battery cables are hooked up correctly meaning red to battery and black to ground on the battery coming from the correct placement on the solenoid (also know as the contacter, big square black box w/ 4 bolts on top for the cables). check all that to make sure it is hooked up and has power and it should be working. let us know.
