Default Used E-ton or New Chinese Kid's ATV

Got two boys, 5 and 4 who have outgrown their powerwheels (Arctic Cat SxS and a Brute Force). They still like them but the don't ride them as much because they don't have any traction so they get stuck in the yard and the charge doesn't last nearly as long as it used to.

Found one place on CL with an E-ton 70 and a 50. I think both are '05s and supposed to be in good shape. $1,400 for both of them.

There's a place locally that is selling the Chinese ATV's. They seem to like the Supermachs due to the better (parts) warranty. They also do repairs there...heard the Chinese ones aren't necessarily terrible, just the problems with getting them fixed. Looks like I could probably get two brand new 110's there for about the same $$$ or even a couple hundred less.

Still keeping my eye out for a used name brand ATV but in the meantime wanted to see what the opinion on teh Chinese stuff was if it was a two-fer deal.

i've had a couple of Etons. i currently have an Eton and i like it. i've never heard of supermachs.....BUT, here's the deal on chinese atvs....do you mind turning a wrench? can you troubleshoot? don't mind tightening different items on a quad? want to learn more about how they work and how to fix them? get chinese quads. they are what they are. they can't take the rough and tough lifestyle of the name brands. but, when your kids are growing fast and will outgrow a quad in a year or two, i can see buying a china quad. $500 for a quad rather than $1500 for a name brand they'll outgrow in a year? yeah, i can pass along the "disposable" quads to other kids.........up to you, it's your money....i've had the little 110cc quads passed around to several kids as they've outgrown it. parts are cheap, simple to work on and MAINTAIN! that's the key, preventive maintenance. .. good luck....

I agree, if you don't mind working on them and can adapt parts from a Honda or something that is available, you will be OK with the chinese machines. I tried a couple of them, one was a baja 50 and the other was a tao tao 110, the baja wasn't too bad, had to put a different carb and did a lot of wiring repair on it, the tao tao was a P O S. After the motor got broke in, the factory size battery wasnt big enough to turn it over any more, it ran like a raped ape when it got started, so I made a battery box and put a big mower battery on the back of it. No more problems getting it to turn over...lol.

I have a 04 Polaris Sportsman 90 and the same company as E-Ton makes those, it's something like AEon motor company or something like that. I don't know what country they are made in, they just say its Asian, but so are most of the other quads. It runs good most of the time, the main problem I have with it is the big rubber boot over the spark plug tends to push the plug wire off. My 6 year old decided one day he'd wash the mud off of it himself, I didn't think to tell him not to stick the garden hose in the tail pipe....it didn't crank so well after that until I figured out what he did. I thought it had a problem with the kickstarter...got that all apart and couldn't turn it by hand either...hydraulic lock.. it puked water for a long time out of the exhaust after I got the engine drained and cleaned out....lol
