Alum. ATV ramp questions
#1
I want to buy a pair (or 1 fold open atv ramp) I was wondering which is better and why. I was also wondering where or who has the best price on them. I want to use the ramp for loading a Rancher 4x4 or Blaster into my Tacoma pickup.
Thanks!

I've used a pair of bifold aluminum ramps for the last 4 years, and I can't believe I didn't use em long before.I lost half my right kneecap years before in a ramp loading accident gone wrong.(used poor judgement and it cost me big time.
Whatever your ramp cost, your safety is worth it, please don't do like I once did, and choose saving a few dollars over your safety.

I figured to go the cheap way in the beginning so I used 2x12's with purchased ramp ends on them. I worked fine in dry conditions but get a little moisture on the tires and your screwed. I decided to go with tri-fold aluminum ramps. Best thing I have ever done. I use it to load into a F-250 4x4. I haven't had a problem. I do also encourage you to take the time and attach the safety chains. I use the ramps now even to load the atvs onto the trailer. I can easily jump the atvs on there but I use the ramps 99% of the time. They really are not that expensive and make life so simple.

I have a pair of aluminum ramps made by Ohio Steel. They are arched, have a nice tread on them, and fold in half. They work well for taller trucks. Northern Tool sells them and they are also in the Cabelas catalog. They work great for me.

The tri-folds are nice because they store between the tires of the loaded-up atv when it is in your truck - the bi folds won't. A local farm supply store "Fleet Farm" in Menomonie, WI has them on sale for $89.

Check out these people they make a dozen ramps. I use a bifold style the taller the tailgate the longer the ramp. http://www.ramp-master.com/

I also have a pair of the aluminums from Ohio Steel. I bought mine at Walmart for about $100.00. The only problem that I've had with mine was when I was parked on a crowned road and trying to load up after plowing snow. I slipped sideways and slid back down on the belly of the machine twice. I figured I was pushing my luck and didn't try it a third time. Next time I buy ramps it will be the tri-fold design.

I use Bi-Folds from the dealer for 119.00 and even went as far as to buy two 6 foot ratcheting straps so I didn't have to depend on those cheap wires. I hook them under my bumper and ratchet them snug so there is no slipping of the ramp. I am very happy now because of the straps. My bi-folds slide between my tires...........although someone mentioned they wouldn't.
