50cc raptor dies when choke turned off

I just bought a 2005 50cc raptor for my son for christmas and when i turn the choke off it dies unless you are giving it gas? I am new to 4 wheelers so i am not sure where to begin to start trouble shooting, and ideas...Thanks

I'd start with a good carb cleaning.
