my 01 500 4x4 wont start
#1
ok, here we go. was out wheeling with my roommate yesterday and for starters, the part of the housing on the front diff where the engage/disengage rod attaches broke apart. so the machine lost its 4x4 capabilities. we decided to keep riding anyways (im now regretting) and the front left tire got stuck in a small hole in the ice. using my 650 i decided to give him a light bump in the rear end and as soon as i did, the 500 died. i suspect that i crossed the exposed wires coming out the broken taillight bulb. but what i fried i have no idea. when the key is turned on the fan kicks on, but none of the lights on the handlebars light up (manual trans by the way) and the start button does not do anything. i tried just jumping the starter relay, but all it does is crank. it wont fire. any ideas on what i cooked? a wire? the cdi? please help.

the bulb would have no effect on the ignition system. maybe you should start by pulling the plug and seeing if it has spark, if it does then it is a fuel problem. if it has no spark then it is a electrical problem. you would be suprised how coincidental things happen. if you suspect the cdi then get your nose down there and smell the cdi cause i had it happen once with an aftermarket cdi and you could easily smell it was burnt. where the harness plugs in.
