'84 Suzuki LT50 Needs A New Home

I am gonna take a line from Clark Griswald to describe cousin Eddie to describe my brother..."his heart is bigger than his brain." But he is my brother, I love him more than life, and I couldn't ask for a better uncle for my boys. Yes, he is their best friend.
In his effort to continue being the most awesome uncle to my 3 little boys, he bought this machine site unseen from a neighbor of his for $125. He is no mechanic and has passed the unit on to me to see if I might be able to get it running beings I have restored a number of tractors and lawn tractors. I have searched this board thoroughly and have really appreciated the information I have been able to glean from it, but I do not feel comfortable trying to get the machine running.
As I begin to look the machine over, I see the rear frame has been broke before as it has straps welded to the sides of the tubing. Likewise, when the P.O. welded it all back together, the left side is closer than the right by one inch (axle to axle). The whole frame was then given a nice spray can coat of black, grease and all. The rear fender is very oxidized and the front fender was given a "wonderful" coat of yellow. Did I mentioned the P.O. "lost" the box of bolts to put everything back together? Ugh !
Well, I have agreed to help my brother out and attempt to recover some of his purchase investment, only because he promised me he would speak with me before he makes a move like this again. As I explained, 'you live and you learn." I am posting this is the classifieds but wanted to provide a better detail of what the machine is all about. There have been many lessons learned during this adventure, the main one being "buyer beware" regardless of how good your heart is. Thank you all for viewing and I would love to hear any other stories of purchases that turned out not so great. Thanks!

My advice is to part this thing out on e-bay and try to recoup his loss. He will spend twice or three times that to get this thing to a point where it is reliable. Nice bikes can be had for 400-500 on Craigslist all day.

We are located in central IL in a small town 15 minutes southeast of Bloomington-Normal, or 25 minutes northwest of Champaign-Urbana, right on I-74. The unit does turn over; however, I have not performed any sort of compression test. The only bit of "invasive" mechanical work that has been done was properly installing a helicoil. To my knowledge, all the parts are present but I would suggest replacing fuel and oil lines, etc., basically the perishables so to speak.
Please let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you for your note.
