Good day. I am currently looking for an ATv for my wife. I am torn between new and used. I found a used polaris 700 efi sportsman
2005 with only 730 miles for $4500 it has been kept indoors and from the pics looks perfect. My other option is to buy her a new ATv.

How long has your wife been riding? What kinds of conditions do you encounter where you ride? Is she small, medium, or heavyweight? A Sportsman can be a bit much for smaller people due to its weight. Especially if you are riding rough trails that require body English to steady the quad or move it around.

 

She has not been riding for long. She likes to ride my brute force 750 as she feels the ATv is very stable and comfortable. I personally think she should be in something a bit smaller, but want to keep with IRS for softer riding. When she is along the terrain is pretty tame and she is a small-med framed female.

 

Have you considered a yamaha kodiak they are IRS im not impressed with polaris they are big and very difficult to work on. Since u like kawasaki what about the prairies the 360 seems to be an excellent ATV and as long as speeds dont get high the ATV is stable.

 

The 700 efi is going to weigh about 120 lbs. more than the BF does. Just an estimate.

 

So I have finished my search. I ended up buying a 2012 Yamaha Grizzly 450 with EPS. I figured that would be in the power range she can handle plus the EPS will make it more enjoyable to ride. Thanks for all the comments everyone. I will post pictures as soon as I pick it up

 

I always buy used on everything mechanical if possible, I,m on my 3rd ATV and never had a bad one yet ,even the ones I sold are still going strong. Buying Used you save up to 40%. Remember as soon as it leaves the showroom floor it looses $1000 and is considered used.

Up here for example,a new 500H.O is $6000 Canadian,but there are used low mileage mint condition ones going for $4000-$3800. People say "what about warranty",but there only 6 months long and are used up parked in the garage most times.

So basically everyone on this forum rides a used ATV,I just try not to be the first Guinea pig that takes the first and largest cash hit.

My friend just bought a loaded mint condition 2010 Chevy Silverodo 6.2L with leather seats and 25,000 miles. He paid $30K Canadian the first owner paid $52K, for the honor of putting on the first 25k of miles cost him $22,000, its nuts to by new, but someone has to do it for the team I guess.

Two words that do not go together "Machine"+"Investment".

 

I understand, I am just so particular with things that I choose to buy New. and yes your right, take a hit everytime. Although I plan on keeping these machines for the long term so I bought exactly what I wanted each time.

I did look for a used ATV, the only one I found that I really liked was in florida

 

I would include my wife in the decision if I had one.
