Just picked up an '04 warrior and the starter is spinning freely. If I push start it, it starts up and runs fine. People have told me its the starter bearing?, starter drive gear, or the bendix gear. Trying to pinpoint exactly what it is so I can order the parts and hit the trails!

 

Probably the best thing would be to pull the starter and see if the geared end is intact, then take a look at where it engages the starter gear,the bearing should be ok if it spins freely, but what we dont know is if it is spinning the gear to start the motor.

 

The starter was replaced. But I took it off for good measure to check it out and all the teeth on it were fine.

 

Contacted the previous owner and he said he had it at the shop and the mechanic said it was the starter bearing. Does this sound right? I want to make sure before I order a new bearing.
