I believe Yamaha introduced power steering around 2007 in the Grizzly 700. Honda was a couple years behind, as well as Polaris. I believe Polaris introduced the power steering when they came out with the XP line around 2008 or 2009. Not sure on the Hondas.

PS is sure a pricey option, Up here a 500 Suzuki KQ with PS cost almost the same as a 750 KQ without PS. Same goes with a 550 Grizzly and 700 Grizzly.

I rode many ATVs and I never found any hard to steer.

like moose mentioned- yammy had them early on. a lot of atv's now ionclude the PS on their XT or upper-end models- like the can-am outlander xt line. can-am offered it in 2010 and I think polaris offered it in 09- not sure about AC tho-

I used to think the same thing- until I bought an atv with PS- now I'd never go back.

It's not just about how easy it is to steer, although it does makes low gear power crawling through rock gardens and steep rocky up-hills effortless (with one arm!)
it's also about control- the PS removes just about all of the neg deflection coming back up through the steering- at high & low speed. It makes the ride so much more comfortable and stable-

There's a rock garden here where I live- a long dried up riverbed that winds up-hill through the woods- I used to be totally fatigued after riding it and had to rest my arms- with the PS, I dodn't even feel it, it's amazing.

Putting PS on an atv was like when they went with the EFI & front locking diffs... everyone said "why? my carb runs fine and my 3x4 gets me out of everything"

I agree with the diff lock option but as for EFI, I fool with my choke for the first daily start up for maybe 20 to 30 seconds and never used it again through out the day.

I ment a guy with a 700 Rhino and he added P.S, never knew you can put it on later if you want.

I didn't think I'd like it but am finding out it's a nice option to have.

The efi is a god-send up here in the new england winters and for deep water / mudding.

I'm not sure if you would want to add a PS afterwards- it's not just a simple bolt-on item- my DPS is tied into the ecm and the pod display has specific provisions for controlling & setting the dps (on can-am's anyway). I'm sure it could be done but, probably a big PITA to aquire all the front end hardware and the upgraded ecm / pod display.

These new atv's really are more & more like automobiles regarding the electronics- my 2011 outty 800 has a pretty intricate electrical system that's all tied into the ecm- pro's & con's on both accounts...
