Im trying to get some info for a friend of mine I work with, He got a really good deal this weekend on a 88 250X, The only hang-up right now is that the rear shock is froze and the dealer wants about $300 for a new one, He was able to come up with an after market one from parts unlimtited that only runs $129 complete but is listed for a 94-up 300ex, I checked a couple of the atv salvage yards and most say it is the same shock but was wondering if anyone has swaped them themselves just to be sure? His dealer wont take any returns on special orders and he wants to be sure so he doesnt have to buy something he cant use. Any info will greatly be appreciated and passed along

Even though I have never swaped them I am almost positive they are they same. The only difference that I know of between the two machines is the stroke which gives it a few more cc's and the electric start.

Before I would go and order one I would check out ebay. You can probably get a good rear shock for half that Parts Unlimited price if not less.

The entire suspension is the same between the 300EX and the 250X... I dont know of any changes throughtout 87-2001...

What brand is the shock from Parts Unlimited for $129? Most aftermarket rear shocks run anywhere from $300 to $800......

The shock sold is a progressive I believe. I myself would try to find a used work rear for cheap[ and get it rebuilt. He will not be happy with the progressive unless he barely rides at all. Also the rear shocks are all the same on all 250X's and 300exs

Well an update, Hard as it is to believe the dealer looked up the shock for a Honda 300 4x4! Not even close to what he needs, If anybody has a line on a decent used unit please let me know, My friend is getting anxious and just doesnt have the money for a new Honda shock or a works unit.

Thanks Todd
