speedometer

i just bought a 2002 sportsman 500 ho. 200 hours 900 miles. the only think i don't love is the speedometer that does not work. the little counter does count hours but no miles? and the needle does not move what should i do???

Welcome! Could be that someone just unplugged the sensor connector from the speedo? Have seen guys do this to keep mileage from adding up! But if it's still hooked up,most of the time when this happens it's the hall effect sensor coming from the speedo to the right front brake caliper that shorts out. Dead give away when there isn't any speed indicator and mileage isn't adding up.I've had to replace quite a few of these. #4010298 about $45 at Cycle Parts Warehouse which isn't cheap! You may be able to find it cheaper just checking around? OPT

Mines is like that, it needs a new Hall Effect wheel sensor, I just do not bother because the speedo is useless to me its so fogged up. Only my Hour Meter works.
With 200 hours your ATV should have more like 2000 miles on it. Most trail rides average 10mph.
