Default Engine Noise

How it going everyone, im looking for some help with my friends 06 raptor 350. It started ticking after doing an oil change, i did the valve adjustment and the ticking is still there, i double checked the valve clearances and it was with in specs. Someone mention it might be the timing chain so i was going to try and look into that. I have the service manual for the quad but need the repair manual. I tried buying one from Ridenow Motorsports but they sold me the wrong one and wouldn't return it. Thanks for your help

Are you sure the correct weight oil was used for the oil change? Was the oil filter changed? Those engines have noisy valves anyway.

I used Yamalube 20w50, with a new filter, that a parts guy recommended.

This seems to be a pretty loud tick to me. i put a screwdriver and my ear to the motor, it sounds like its coming from the exhaust side. Im thinking it might just be the valve? Maybe just replace that? Any Suggestions from here?

Yeah I'm not sure what Yamaha recommends, 20W50 may be too thin for your climate. I was reading on other forums that they run 10W40 and 15W40 in theirs, but their climate could be different.

Was it not ticking prior to the oil change? If it wasn't I doubt it would be the valve. 20W50 is actually a heavier weight oil. When the oil is cold it is a weight of 50, once it warms up it is a weight 20.

Your climate plays a major role in the weight of oil you choose but it most climates 20W 50 is a bit heavy.

Here is a link to a PDF file for owners manual. Check page 10-1 for the oil recommendations. Weights show 5W30, 10W30, or 20W40. Make sure you get oil that is ok to use for wet clutches. This link will download a PDF file of the owners manual.
