After riding in the Cherokee National Forrest this past Saturday, I'm looking for a better method of braking for my 2000 Magnum 325 4x4. My left hand really hurts from holding the brakes on those long down-hills.

Can I add EBS to my ATV? How much would it cost?

How about adjusting the brake lever so it fully engages the brakes with the lever a little closer to the grip?

Any ideas?

Kevin, if you riding on hills allot I would recommend EBS. I have EBS on my 98 Sportsman and it works great. My only regret is that when going down hill it is in 2 WD only due to the AWD system (the back wheels must rotate faster than the front wheels to engage 4WD). The cost to add EBS I think is around $400 to $500, for your type of riding it's worth every penny. A word of caution, when using your brakes hard, as you appear to, the brake pads wear out very quickly so check them regularly. My OEM pads lasted only 200 miles. The rear rotor was shot too. (Warranty covered it all thank goodness) Since then I have replaced the front brake pads with sintered pads and I have learned to slow down with EBS only.

Kevin, you might try HPD for a split break system that they have. Basically it gives you a second break lever (right side) and splits the front and rear breaks like more common ATV's and cycles. I'm not sure of the price but I thought I saw another thread about them somewhere in here with more info.

 

HPd and Hot Seat carry the split brake option for $140 from either company.

the add on ebs for polaris costs about $300 and hpd will sell you just a new master clyinder to convert to a smaller bore which will improve your brakes greatly. i have installed both on my 400 exp with great results. my wife would not ride down steep hills on her trail blazer till i installed the master clyinder. she can now lock up the wheels with 2 fingers. you do not need to split the brakes to get great brakes.
