Default 850XP just dies

It is like it is running out of gas but just before it cuts completely off it comes back to life and will run for an unspecified time (five to ten minutes) then dies again. Never cutting completely off. Any ideas appreciated. I have changed the throttle cable, thought it might be the safety, no help. I have ran with the cap loose on the fuel tank, no vacuum there. Thanks, Jerry

You have to have a fuel pressure gauge with a fuel rail adapter(PS-48762) to check if the fuel pump is weak. Should hold 43 psi. Plus the ecu module could be faulty, not allowing the proper amount of fuel into the injectors. This is where you really need a manual, plus certain tools like the fuel rail adapter. These models are even more dependent on the Polaris Digital wrench program to track down problems than alll the other efi machines. You can see if any codes are thrown by pushing the select button on the speedo until MIL is illuminated. There will be a two digit code if any problems it might detect. Wish I could help more on these models. OPT

I have the fuel pump filter assy out and it looks fine, no clogged filter and tank clean. Is there an aftermarket fuel pump or you stuck with buying the tank assy?

Not sure on the 850,but Airtex pumps was an aftermarket pump that would work on the 700 and 800's. You might check their website out along with Napa or Auto zone. Plus did the pump ever sound like it would priming up? OPT

I can't say for sure, I mostly noticed the power steering sound on start up. Thanks for your help, it is very much appreciated. Jerry

Other things you could check is the sensor harness wiring and connectors for any bare wires or connectors, or any wire that may feel soft that could be broken internally.Could be as simple as this. Plus check that the tank vent tube is open. OPT

The Airtex fuel pump would not work so I ordered the Polaris fuel pump $299.00 and will not have it until Monday. I will post results, hate the delay but I guess I have to hurry up and wait. Thanks, Jerry
