I have had my Arctic Cat 450I TRV in the shop to get heat shields that resonate at mid rpm fixed. The rivets were peened and that solved the problem for only a couple of days. Anyone have any ideas as to quiet noisy heat shields?

 

When my 2003 TRV was new the heat shields rattled like crazy. I had to remove the bolts that held the shields in place and install a fiber washer like an exhaust gasket. It quieted right down excepts a high pitched sweak at mid-range throttle.

Careful examination I found where the exhaust pipe was barely touching the frame and when it heated up and the metal expanded it would rub making the squeak. A couple of hits with a hammer and properly placed piece of 2x2 and the squeak was gone.

Mine is now rattling again but that is because the heat shields are cracked where the bolts attach it tot he exhaust.
