I have the tube bumper and winch on my xplorer (1999 400). It all worked fine and was made to fit together...
You need the winch mount and both the winch mount and the bumper both attach to the same points along front radiator guard.

Look at my home page and see pics:

This is an old question that has been thrown around a few times, but I'm bringing it back just in case somebody has some new info. The accessories catalog says the dual tube front bumper cannot be used with the winch. However, the Remington edition has a mounting bracket on the bumper for a fairlead, and in the ATV Connection 2000 polaris article, there is a picture I think of the Rem. ed. with a winch on it. As for the standard tube bumper, is there any differenc than the one on the Rem edition. Has anyone here used the winch with a tube bumper, and did you have to modify much? I would imagine you could do a little grinding here and there to make it all fit together. Seems possible, but does anyone know?

what i did with my 96 400 was to make a bracket right behind the grill, bolted it to the frame rails that hold the bumper on. then cut a hole in the mesh grill for the cable, at first glance you cant see the winch, looks clean too, plus its not sticking out to hit something with
