Hey all-

How do CDI Kits work. I understand they allow the ATV to rev higher- but does this increase in RPM's hurt the engine? I've always liked the fact that I can peg my throttle and not worry about killing my engine- however, I don't want to compensate power if the CDI is just as safe.
What is considered "RED LINE" on a 400ex? What max RPM's does the stock rev-limiter allow?

How easy are these to install? I'd say I'm about a 7 on a 10 scale in terms of mechanics.

Thanks for the input!

If I remember right, I think you can get a cdi box for an xr250 that would raise your rev-limiter 1000 rpm's. That way you would still have a rev-limiter. I'm not sure though, maybe some of the 400ex guys will tell you.

The install is almost too simple for the difference that it makes, takes about 5 minutes. As far as redlining the engine you wont have a problem. My friend installed the pro-honda cdi and added 1200 rpms, he says that he likes the extra boost. If you decide to do this you shouldnt have any problems either with installing it or over-reving the engine.
