New ATV tires
#1
Hey everyone,
I currently have been shopping for new tires and rims to run on my 2008 rubicon. Currently it has 27 inch ITP XTRs with 14 inch SS 212s and although I love theses tires for mud, handling and stability, they are heavy and sort of rob me a lot of low end power. I've had these tires since I purchased the ATV new from the dealer and have never felt the true low end power of the rubicon because of it. Currently I'm think of the 25 inch bighorn 2.0 with SS 216s in 12 inches. I want to run 8 inch wide in the front and 10 in the rear. Is this a good tire setup or should I consider something lighter? I don't care about mud performance really, I just want a good all around tire that is light. If anyone with BH 2.0s can comment on how they feel it would be much appreciated.

Check this site out ,they give you all the specs of the tire, weight, lug height and ply.
ATV Mud Tires : Best ATV Tires : GBC Maxxis ITP
Look at the maxxis Zilla (Not Mud Zilla) its the lightest 6 ply with a 1"+ lug made. I just bought the 26x9-12 fronts and 26x11-12 for my 350 4x4 and notice no power loss or top end speed loss. Maxxis Zilla

Thanks for the response, I actually considered the Zillas for my 400 foreman back in the day but went with ML XLs instead. How is the ride on the Zillas? Are they smooth or choppy like some mud tires on the trail ?

They have the same ride as the mudlite XL I have those (25") on my 500 .
The ML XL 25x8 and 25x10 weigh the same as Zilla 26x9 and 26x11 and the Zilla has the same size lug.
Beats me how they do it.
I only notice choppy on hard pack roads at slow speeds on the front. Goes away when you hit 15mph and never shows on softer tuff/dirt trails.
You have to go to 26" on Zilla to get the taller 1.18" lug the 25" only have the 0.75" lug.
I call half worn out Mudlites XLs Brand New Mudlite ATs.

my dad has the big horn 2.0 on his kq 700 and they are insane. lots of low end bite and now sway at 70 down a dirt road since they are a radial. they through almost as large of a roost on the dunes as my sand stars. awsome tire. do very well in winter for snowplowing or even 2 foot deep snow drifts while field runnin

It was a tough choice between the 2.0s and the Zillas after researching more into them but in the end I went with the 2.0s went 25x8-12 up front and 25x10 in the rear. Got them on ss216 rims. Can't wait till they come in

They did not have them to fit your ss212 14" rims?
I looked at them to but the 0.71 lug does not seem agressive enough thats less the 3/4 of an inch and the have more weight.
Look to be more of a general trail tire. Look to be perfect for faster gravel road riding though.

My 27in XTRs still have about a inch of tread on them after about 900 miles so I wanted to keep them for mud and snow still. They came in yesterday so I'm going to ride with the bighorn today. I'll give an update and my initial opinion on the tires after I ride for a few hours today

Yea rode them today and I have to say they ride nice, actually harder to steer than the XTRs but other than that I can't complain. Pretty much what I expected but I'm very glad I kept the XTRs because the bighorns are useless in thick mud and I imagine they will perform the same way in snow.
