My starter has been hanging up. It works OK if you just give the key switch a short tap. If turning the key for a long crank it makes noise for a few seconds after it starts. I definitely want to change the starter drive and the #7042039 spring. I see starter drives all over for $20. The Cycle warehouse has one for $100? I want to get parts before taking it apart and am trying to find best source.

 

Starter drive gear is usually what makes the noise because of sticking. Common problem on the 500,not so much on the larger machines. You can"blip" the throttle right after starting to kick the gear shaft (bendix) back quicker. Here's a cheap place on starters and gear shafts if you need a replacement.DB Electrical - Polaris
