1984 TRX200 Idle issue
#1
I'm new to the forums so please bare with me. I have a 1984 TRX200, it was sitting for 12 or so years. I cleaned out the carb, made sure that the jets were clear. It was running perfectly then I changed the idle mix screw setting. The idle shot up really high and wouldn't come back down with either the idle mix or the adjustment screw. I have taken the c clip off of the idle needle and placed it on the very bottom notch, notch 5 on the pin, and it now runs well. I have two questions, why did the idle go up and not want to come down and is there anything wrong with having the c clip in the idle needle on the fifth notch?

the aftermarket jets and mixture screws are not manufactured to the same exact specs as the factory 1`s are
did you ensure that all of the passages were cleaned out
always tune a rebuilt carb step by step
if it screams at idle with the clip on the 1st notch , then work your way down the notches until you hear a smooth idle

Thanks for the help. I ran the bike with the c-clip on the 5th notch for few minutes then switched it back to the 2nd notch. I hadn't changed any carb settings and it runs fine now. Thanks for your help
