It may be a stupid question, but what is the rev limiter for?

sparkster, the idea behind the rev limiter for reverse is safety. It is to stop you from going too fast in reverse and possibly losing control, especially if you accidentally apply too much throttle. Most quads that have this also have an override switch so that if needed (like when you are stuck and need more power), you can rev normally. On my Kawasaki Prairie it is a momentary switch, which means that you have to continously hold it on for it to work (also a safety feature).
There are no consequences if you disable the rev limiter other than the lack of safety. I think its a good feature because if you need to override it, it is easy to use the overide switch and it makes you more aware of the extra power and speed. If your quad doesn't have an override switch, I can see where you might not like it.
