Replaced rear brake shoes and now can not get the drum back on. It will not clear the shoes. I have the part that spreads the shoes horizontal so that shoes are in closed position. I have tried tapping the drum with a rubber mallet but it does not seem to be even close to going on? Any solutions?

Look at photo #6 you will see an metal ring inside of drum,,sometime drum will wear down to the clip ring an new set of shoe will not go over ring so most of the time Ill leave it out
