OK folks, time to loosen up a bit and have some fun. Lets hear everyone stories about the biggest/longest/highest jumps they've made on their Polaris. Only rule I have is try not to exagerate to much! (No "I jumped the Grand Canyon" stories)

 

Busted my ***** on the gascap a few years ago,learned my lesson the hard way, now I get over the back of the seat.

 

"Big Air" on a Polaris... haha... Good one!

 

I was running behind Hydro and TazGrizz, and when I caught up with them, they had been having a little jump contest at the north end of trail 3a where it hits trail 2 at Wolf Pen Gap. They had marked their landings, and told me to try to beat them. They were jumping about 20 feet. That may not sound like a long way, but that jump throws you pretty high. Without thinking, I got about 100 yards away and nailed the thottle. I landed on the far side of trail 2 almost at the tree line. Luckily I managed to miss the trees and slid to a stop. I managed to scare the hell out of myself, and flew about 10 feet past their best mark. The bike was probably about 6-8 feet off the ground. I was surprised that the suspension did not bottom out, and I did not break anything. That is about the best Big Air story I have... keep in mind I ride a SP500.

That's the best kind of jump, when you have to get off the bike and check your pants afterwards. hahaha

 

Careful there man, you'll come up with a new nickname doing stuff like that. Something like soprannorider

 

Don't get too much air, or you will end up with big repair bills. I race mine in hare scrambles and GNCC events and so far have managed to snap the chain and the rear axle after landing a relatively small jump. A guy that also races in my class recently destroyed the transmission on a similar jump. It was $1500 to fix the scrambler. Thankfully it was covered under the warranty!

 

I hear of problems like that all the time with Scramblers. That is the main reason I would not buy one. I ride a 2000SP500, and my previous bike was a 1998 SP500 and I have never damaged on jumping it, although, I do not always jump it that hard.

Best (not Biggest) jump was a couple of years back fanging along a shingle beach racing a buddy on my 400 Scrambler 4x4. Just hitting top and passing him when he braked hard leaving me wondering why when I saw the wash out that a stream had made. Locked up all four, buit the shingles were round pebbles that did not help with traction much. The drop was about 4', and the river was about 8' across to a flatish area on the other side (no bank) and the speed was about 50ish. I thought if I hold the brakes, I will go in nose first. In about the last 2' I gave it the full monty, pulled back, found religion and closed my eyes. The bike landed square on all four and the front wheels had nearly cleared the stream, but the backs gave me a good soaking.

The jump would have been very stylie to those who were watching as it was very smooth. The image of a nicely controlled and executed jump would have been ruined to those within earshot by the long and loud expletive that accomanpied it!
