Need help with clutch : 2003 Kodiak 450
#1
Hey folks,
I just bought a 2003 Kodiak 450. Rode it about 4 hours before the clutch started grabbing hard and I couldn't idle anymore without the engine stalling. Picked up a service manual (if anyone needs one, PM me, I'll provide it, free of charge).
After having it pulled completely apart, I confirmed the motor runs fine, but there is a loud "clank" when I hit the throttle a bit. Once I put it in gear, it currently continues to run, but dogs down quite a bit. I think I need the one-way baring, but it could be something else, since i'm pretty much making just an educated guess.
Does anyone here have experience with these machines that could offer any advice? I'd like to fix this myself, if I can. I figure, buy a used ATV, get used to fixing a used ATV. We bought two of these simultaneously, both 2003 models. The other purrs like a kitten and has zero issues. This one, I think, was beaten like Cinderalla the day of the ball.
Cheers

Can,t help but..
Just call it a 450 Grizzly so people are more familiar with what ATV your talking about.
Since Yamaha only called the 450 a Kodiak for a very short time vs the Grizzly name that's been used for years.

I did end up figuring out the problem. There was a pair of dry bearings, one of which seized up. In the attached picture, it's parts 4 and 6. Got them replaced, lubricated, and all is well.
