Hello. I have 2 2006 bruins. One is beginning to overheat and shut down. Here is what I have noticed. The red oil light never comes on. The fan will come on for a little bit, then it turns off and doesn't come back on. When that happens the bruin continues to get hotter and eventually just shuts down until it cools down on its own. Does anyone think its the thermo sensor/switch?

 

More likely a other issue like a bad ignition coil or something.
A air cooled motor will not over heat unless the oil pump quit or the motor fins are clogged full of baked mud and by then the motor would self destruct not quit and re start.
The oil light is for oil level or pressure not temp.
The oil cooler and fan is just for cooling "assist".
My 1989 350 4x4 Big Bear never came with a fan and a 350 Warrior / Raptor do not even have a oil cooler or fan yet they have the same 348cc motor. They just rely on air flow through the motor fins which can never mess up in theory.

The only time I had a motor act up like that was on a motor bike where the ignition coil would get to a certain temp and shut the bike down, then after it sat it would go again and do the same thing.

 

I will start looking in that direction
