No fuel, Fuel pump?
#1
Hello. I picked up a scrambler 500 for 600.00. Owned by a farmer. Ran great until he let it sit for over year. Checked the spark, that was good, then the fuel. I Did the usual, new plug, clean gas. It will not get any fuel to the carb when cranking it over. Gas gets from the tank to the fuelpump and that's it. I even bought another fuel pump used and same thing. If i poor a little gas in the carb it fires up and dies. So i decided to take the carb apart and see if it was clean. Of course it was filled with some gum and varnish. Im in the process of cleaning it now. My question is if the carb is dirty will that restrict gas coming from the fuel pump? Also, Im pretty sure I hooked the lines up correctly from the pump to the carb/tank etc. Anyone have a picture or know where the lines go so i could double check. I find it hard to believe i would have 2 bad fuel pumps.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes. If the needle and seat are sticking, not allowing fuel to enter the carb. Carb works by way of a vacuum. If the carb isn't sucking, fuel flow will be weak. Pouring fuel in the carb and it tries to run tells you that the carb is probably the main problem. Just get a carb kit from Ebay and go from there.
