1998 Polaris Trail Boss 4x4 wont start
#1
Hello i just recently got a 1998 Trail Boss 250. I can not get it to start. The guy said it started last week... But i still got a good deal for it running or not. Anyways the carb is clean as a whistle and a brand new spark plug is making spark. SO i contacted a local quad repair shop and they said it might have low compression and the top end needs to be rebuilt. they said if i brought it over they'd do a compression test...but i haven't made it there yet. But i put my finger over the spark plug hole and it just about blew my finger off. Then my dad told one of his friends about my problem and he said that his if it doesn't start in like 5 pulls the exhaust will flood and he needs to drain it. i tried that and there was nothing in the exhaust...
So now im confused on what to do. The carb is getting brand new gas as well. Any help would be great!

Check that you have spark first. Just ground the plug to the cylinder. If spark is good, then a compression test as recommended will tell you where you stand on the top end. You can rent a compression test kit from any local auto store if you don't want to take it to a shop. If compression is lower than 100 psi, then you'd be looking at at least a top end. Plus on a 15 year old 2 stroke crank seals could be leaking too. If you don't have a manual at least look at this pdf service manual. Index of /ORV Manuals/Polaris/1996-1998 - All Models
