Default Painting control arms??

After seeing my friends 04.5 500HO with the nice red control arms, the RZR 1000 at the sled show, and an XP 850, I want to paint my control arms red.

I priced powder coating them, it will rin close to $400 up here, so opting for paint instead. Dad has a nice Devillbiss spray gun, so it will get done right, no rattle cans.

My question is, if I knock the bushings out, will I screw them up? Going to check them out tomorrow, and see if the bushings are still tight.

If I can re-use them, do I grease them up to make getting them out easier?

Want to do all 6 control arms.

Since it's fairly new you should be able to turn and twist the bushings out. Main thing is to loosen both 9/16" a-arm bolts at the same time until you can remove them by hand. If you take one out at a time the other may just spin in the a-arm shaft. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Honda, Arctic Cat & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks OPT. Can I remove the lower front control arms, and leave the strut bolted in? This way, I have no worries with CV shafts dropping.

When I do the rears, can I leave the CV shafts in and just tie them up for support? or gently left them rest down on a block?

Just remove the nut from the strut ball joint, take a blunt punch and hammer and knock the a-arm loose from the strut. Then you can remove the two bolts holding the arm to the frame and slide the arm out. The strut, drive shaft can stay as they are.

Thanks again OPT! Now, how do I identify the control arms, left and right once off? The lowers have the holes in them for the a arm guards, but how about the uppers?

Ive painted a few things and used different color rope for each side to hang it. Or hung as it stands on bike Left or Right.
oh and I tied a color rope to grips designating which side

Perfect! I may also use broom handles through them, but love your colour coding idea!
