Default 1/4 in breather/vent tube left rear

So, I'm changing out the battery and this clear 1/4 inch tube running along the frame above the battery falls to the ground. I have looked for an hour and can not find where it attaches to. It had no odor (like gas).
A couple of questions - where in the heck does it go, and is it important?
Thanks!

Depending on what model machine you have? It's probably an old vent line from the old lead acid battery or a vent line to the transmission. If the battery you now have is maintenance free, the tube isn't needed.

Thanks old Polaris Tech! Sorry forgot to mention it's a '95 Polaris 400 Xplorer. My guess is it went to the transmission since it was fairly long. Is there an external vent plug on the trans that I can slide the tube onto or do I have to pop the trans cover. If the later, I'll probably leave it off.

After many months of rebuilding my '95 xplorer 400, and several responses from you that helped me along the way, she is up and running, and purr's like a kitten.
Yesterday, I started her to put her back on the trailer, she ran for about 45 seconds then stopped. Tried everything to start her, but wouldn't start.
After running the battery down, sitting on the deck frustrated and cussing, I realized I never turned the fuel lever to the run position and just shook my head. Some things are beyond fixing.
Thanks again for your help. You got this ol' retired guy in St. Louis thru several frustrating issues.

Good idea though to turn the fuel off when you're through for the day on the old 2 strokes to keep them from flooding the crank case.Glad you got it running.
