2003 sportsman 700 bendix

Does the starter bendix have a thrust washer on the front and back?
I am certain there was one on the front and believe there was one on the back when I removed it. The parts diagrams only show one on the rear which I have ordered since I now only have one.
Also I have ordered a replacement bendix bushing listed for the front cover in hopes that it will fit in the housing behind the stator. The front and rear shaft measure to be the same diameter.

Yes the bendix has washers on the front and back on the 700. Just doesn't show it on the parts breakdown. The bendix bushings are the same, doesn't show the one for the engine case in the parts break down either.

Make sure the lost washer isn't on the flywheel anywhere. Damage can happen.Plus if you don't have the updated Kokusan ignition system for this model, still could have problems later on the Ducati system. Look at the posts on 700 ignition problems on the forum plus you can just Google this up. Not trying to scare you,but to let you know as they can fail at any time.

I was kinda thinking the same thing with the washer but it is gone! I had been following some of the other posts regarding upgrading the ignition and believe I will do this while she has made her way into my garage for other repairs.
thanks again,

It is alive again! This all began as a simple starter/bendix repair...
I located the second (lost) thrust washer on the back of the bendix
The single red wire for the cdi was hidden very well above old cdi/coil.
The instructions for the kit discuss cutting the front plastic body panel which I did not do. I removed the aluminum bracket to mount the new regulator instead of removing bumper, winch and disconnecting lights.
Now just have to reinstall all of the panels.
It was amazing how quick she started after waiting so long for me to finish.
Thanks for your help.
